Design of supplementary learning materials for museums, which linked classroom learning to field studies.
As an education materials designer in Atlas Language School, a common problem we encountered was the linking of classroom learning to that of the activities students went on. Activities take place after classroom learning, so it’s important that tasks are fun, colourful and quick.
This project included worksheets aimed at particular ages and language ability. We wanted them to have to find clues within the museums by looking at objects or paintings, and reading descriptions. We also staged the questions so that they were brought around in a circle, and would finish in the main entrance. This way they would take themselves on a self guided tour of all the main highlights of museums and galleries, it would still feel free but they would be drawn into looking for particular information and history.
Atlas Language School found the worksheets so useful, they commissioned several more for other institutions around Ireland including Collins Barracks, The Chester Beattie and The Natural History Museum.
